About Us

Woodvale Primary School, located in Perth's northern suburbs, opened in 1987 and is one of two K - Year 6 government primary schools in Woodvale. The parent body is very supportive of the school through an active and enthusiastic Parents & Citizens Association. Parent involvement is a feature of the school.

WPS is currently a level 5 primary school in the North Metropolitan Region. The administration team is comprised of a principal and two deputy principals. Senior teachers and special responsibility allowance teachers support the school through their roles in curriculum coordination, administration and professional development.

A corporate services manager and office assistant work with the school administration and a library assistant manages the extensive school library and Teachers' Resource Centre. Education assistants support teaching staff in the three pre-primary and kindergarten areas, while others work with special needs children throughout the school.

As a relatively new school, the buildings are of modern design and well equipped. All buildings are air-conditioned and the P & C has provided paved areas, seating and pergolas to create a comfortable learning environment. A school-based, student-controlled environmental and enterprise program is successfully developing and improving the school grounds. A specialist teaching block, completed in 2011, caters for Japanese, science, music and information technology. A state-of-the-art Kindergarten and Pre-Primary Centre was also completed in 2011.

Japanese, Music, Science,  Drama and Physical Education are specialist programs taught across all primary year levels. The school choir performs publicly and has received high commendation. Sporting teams have also been successful at a local and state level.

Information technology is a priority at Woodvale Primary School. Each classroom is equipped with an interactive whiteboard, with Wifi connectivity available to service tablet and other devices. A modern, permanent laboratory, together with two mobile laboratories integrates Apple and Windows technology by utilising a combination of iPads, MacBooks and personal computers.

The WPS Board was formalised in 2011 and is comprised of five parent and three staff members, including the school principal. This group meets throughout the year to monitor and discuss relevant aspects of the school plan.B

A specific focus in the school has been the implementation of a Values and Recognition program, which will continue as an integral part of social development across all year levels. The appointment of a school chaplain in 2012 has also supported the ethos of the program.
