Principal’s Update 19 November 2021

Kindy 2022

This week we had the pleasure of welcoming our new Kindergarten parents at their information session on Wednesday 17 November. We had a great turn out and barely a seat to spare. I would like to say a huge thank you to our School Officer Deb Westcott and our MCS Janet Vincent who have done a wonderful job preparing and assisting me with the Kindergarten packs and booklet with all the information needed to support a successful transition for our youngest students. Next week, Wednesday 24 November our new Kindergarten students will spend time in their new classroom. We wish them all the best as they start one the most significant journeys in their educational experience.

Faction names: vote!

At yesterday’s assembly I spoke about the proposed faction names for 2022 and beyond. Today your child will bring home a voting slip. If you would like your input, please complete your preferences and return the voting slip to the box in the front office by next Friday 26 November.

Colour Run

Our Colour Run is on next Friday 26 November after lunch. You need to have set up your child’s online fundraising account. Please refer to previous Connect notices. There are some fabulous prizes to be won. It will be a really fun, messy afternoon!  Make sure you have a tshirt ready, no school shirts please.

Unfortunately, a group of people have taken a liking to Crinum Court on a Sunday evening. Every Monday morning our amazing gardener Jim, with the help of some community members, collects bags of rubbish and drug paraphernalia from outside the gate. There is always a considerable amount of rubbish and items our students should not be exposed to. Jim has spoken with police; I have contacted Joondalup City Council. It appears to be a tricky situation as it is a public space, not a school zone. We are asking for our community to support us by phoning police to patrol the area (non-emergency 131 444) on a Sunday evening if they observe cars parked there.

Playing on school grounds before and after school

Students are not allowed to play on playgrounds or on the basketball courts before school. Some students are arriving very early. Unless students are attending Run Club, Choir or Science etc which are supervised by staff, they should arrive at approximately 8:30am and wait outside their classroom, which opens at 8.35am. The school has a duty of care for all students on the school grounds before school, so we need to have structures in place to ensure adequate supervision whilst ensuring that teachers can carry out their duties before students arrive. If your child is consistently early to school, you may be asked to consider engaging the services of before school care.

After School: Please ensure that your child/children are within eyesight and do not let them run around the school buildings or climb on the playgrounds. We have had a couple of incidents requiring medical attention that have happened after school whilst students are waiting for their parent.

Camp Australia also has a lease on certain areas of the school before and after the school day, and their lease agreement and licence may be withdrawn if they have children in these areas that are not registered under their care. Remember gates are locked at 3:15pm.

Staff carpark

A reminder to please use the car bays outside the school grounds for before and after school pick up and drop off.

Interschool Cricket and Handball

Last Thursday 11 November a select group of cricketers represented Woodvale Primary School with Mr McManus to compete in the T20 carnival. Some games were won by huge margins (110 runs!). The team made finals but lost by 1 run. Heartbreaking, yet awesome. Well done. A handball competition was held today at North Woodvale. Mr P organised 4 teams and by all reports the students had a great day!

Values Reward

Our final values reward will be held for students on 30 November. Thank you Mrs Cutler for organising the surprise, and well done to our amazing students who have consistently demonstrated our values: kindness, integrity, respect and responsibility.

We are busy planning the Christmas songs! Please keep your eye out for any updates re the Carols night. It is proposed to be held on Tuesday 7 December at 6pm, however we are finding it difficult to secure an appropriate sound system. I will discuss this with the Board and P&C whether Monday 6 December could be a substitute date if we can’t source the right PA.

Year 6 and Year 1 Buddies

Our Year 6 graduating students are preparing for their end of year Dinner Dance. They have taught their buddies one of their dances and I was privilege to be invited into a dance rehearsal. How cute are these photos?

Our final parent-body meetings for 2021 will be:

P&C meeting: next Monday 22 November 7pm

Board meeting: next Tuesday 23rd November 6pm
