Principal’s Update 23rd June 2020

Principal’s Update

Dear Parents and Carers

COVID -19 Update. The Education Department will be releasing information on Phase 4 restrictions later this week. The new arrangements will be in place as from next Monday 29th June. We are hoping assemblies, discos and the Faction and Interschool carnivals will go ahead as normal. I will inform you as soon as I hear.

I would once again like to thank parents and the staff for your wonderful support and understanding during the pandemic. We are certainly lucky to be living in WA.

STEM. All classes have been working on a unit of work using a STEM approach. The Year 2 students have been designing and making a bedroom using Lego and then putting their design on a program on the iPads. They are using critical and creative thinking to seek solutions and put ideas into action as well as reflecting on their bedroom designs.

Semester 1 Reports. The students’ reports will be posted on Connect next Friday, 3rd July from 2.30. Please note that due to COVID-19, many students were away from school for an extended period and as a result, the Education Department has directed teachers not to use grades on the reports, only an Effort rating. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any queries.

School Development Day. Monday 20th July is a School Development Day and the students are not required to attend.

Lost Property. There are 12 school jackets in lost property. Could parents please write your child’s name on the children’s jackets and school hats.

Congratulations. Congratulations to Patrick McKenner who has been offered a position in the academic extension program at Duncraig SHS in Year 7. Well done Patrick!

Staffing. I have appointed Mr Riley to the PE teacher role for term 3. Mr Bewick is continuing on leave. Mr Riley will now start to organise the athletics carnivals for third term. The date for the Faction Carnival (pending COVID-19 restrictions being lifted) is Friday 4th September. The Interschool carnival will be held at WPS his year on Thursday 17th September.

P&C. The P&C recently approved $1,000 for the purchase of 30 Ukuleles for the music program in Years 4-6. Miss Speelman is very excited about getting started and I look forward to the students performing later in the year. The P&C have also set the dates for two discos in term 3 (pending COVID-19 restrictions being lifted): Friday 31st July and Friday 11th September.

Regards

Neil McCallum
