Principal’s Update – 4th March 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

The term is going quickly and with only four weeks to go we are very busy. Our Public School review was conducted on 18th February. The Director will forward a copy of their report of their visit in a week. The report will be presented to the School Board and will be placed on the school website. The review was a culmination of a lot of work by the staff and we were pleased with the feedback we received from the Director.

NAPLAN 2021. All Year 3 and 5 students will be sitting for the NAPLAN tests in week four next term. A flyer is being sent home with the students today which explains the test for parents. If you have any queries please contact me.

Great Work! Well done to Cooper D. and Sophie C. for their great work on a real life superhero.

School Board Vacancy. Thank you to the two parents who have nominated for the vacancy on the board. We will hold an election which will placed on Connect next week.

P&C Association. Congratulations to all the parents who filled all the various positions at the AGM last week. It was great to see so many new faces. We are hopeful we can run more events this year once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

Fathering Project. A flyer was sent home this week advertising a meeting for fathers on Tuesday 9th March from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. The group have planned some exciting events during the rest of the year.

Anti-Bullying. The staff are committed to helping reduce bullying at our school. We have a number of strategies such as the Friendly School Plus, Zones of Regulation, our Values program and the great work Mrs Warnes, our Chaplain does. We would like to ask parents to support our efforts by:

• Talking regularly with your children about bullying
• Encouraging your children to “ask for help” if they are being bullied at school
• If your children are fighting at home, help them discuss their problem and come to a mutual solution
• Encouraging your children to be assertive by helping them to practise speaking in a firm but friendly way, making eye contact, looking calm and smiling and feeling good about themselves

Cricket Carnival. Congratulations to all the students who participated in the carnival at Kingsway today. They were lucky the weather was nice. It was great to see the way they participated and displayed good sportsmanship. Thank you to Mr Riley, Mr Barber and Mr McManus for their work with the students.
