2021 Student Councillors

Congratulations to the students who were elected as Student Councillors for 2021. I’m sure the students will do a great job and be excellent student leaders at our school.

Head Girl: Emily A., Head Boy: Kieran S., Councillors: Maddie M, Sophie O (absent for the photo), Blake C, Jethro J.

Woodvale SC Visit. Last week, the Year 5 students visited Woodvale SC to see a variety of learning areas at the school. The students were very impressed with the options and courses available to them when they reach Year 7.

Camp Out. There were 28 fathers and 40 children at the camp out at the school last weekend. By all reports, everyone had a great time. This was the main event held by the Fathering Project for the year. The groups plans to hold a number of events next year. Well done to Dave McMillan and Andrew Scott for organising the event.

Tennis Event. Our school entered four teams in a district tennis competition at Sorrento Tennis Club last Friday. The students had a fun time and enjoyed the games against students for seven other schools. Well done Mr Riley for organising the teams.

Class Placements for 2021. Due to a number of new enrolments, we will have 16 classes in 2021 and only one split class. Class lists will be displayed outside the office from 3.00 next Tuesday 15th December. The staff have spent a lot of time in creating the classes and have done their best in meeting parent requests where possible.

Staffing. I would like to wish Mrs Gemma Brown all the best for her leave during first semester. Ms Cara Thomas has been appointed to replace Mrs Brown. Mrs Gemma Beale will also be taking leave for 2021. Mrs Ashleigh Young has been appointed to replace Mrs Beale. Mrs Caroline Bate will be leaving us at the end of the year. I would like to thank her for all her great work at WPS and wish her all the best for the future. Mrs Jemma Flockhart has been appointed Deputy Principal to replace Miss McNeill in 2021.

Retirements. We are sorry to say farewell to Mrs Narelle Chappell who is retiring after working at Woodvale PS for 27 years. Mrs Chappell, who has worked mainly in the Pre Primary, has been a wonderful member of staff and she will be missed. Mr Corry Bewick is also retiring at the end of this year after being at our school for 22 years. Mr Bewick has organised camps, faction carnivals and interschool sport for many years and will be missed.

Start of 2021. Parents are reminded that school starts on Monday 1st February. The office will be open the week before, except for the public holiday.

Thank You. I would like to express my appreciation to the staff for their wonderful efforts this Year. There have been a number of challenges due to COVID-19 and the staff have pulled together and maintained a high standard of education.

A big thank you also to the School Board and the P&C. The Board have made a significant contribution to the decision making processes at the school. They have introduced a new school jacket and are currently looking at tenders for the Out of School Hours Care for next year. There is a vacancy for a parent representative, so if you’d like to learn more, please contact me or the Board Chair, Mrs Sam Byrne. Nominations will be called in term one. The P&C is to be congratulated on organising their main fund raising event, the Colour Run. Raising $16,000 was a terrific effort and Mrs Bec Harris and her helpers did a wonderful job. Thank you to Jason Sasche for his leadership of the P&C and I look forward to some exciting events in 2021.

Students’ Reports. Parents are reminded that the students’ reports will be available on Connect from 3.00 next Wednesday 16th December. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any queries.

Year 6’s. As we farewell the Year 6’s, I would like to congratulate them all for their achievements and contributions to our school. They are looking forward to their Dinner/Dance tomorrow night and their Graduation ceremony next Tuesday.

I’d like to wish all families all the best for Christmas and the New Year and I look forward to see you all in 2021.
